Vol. 104 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tenancy of Phoenix Park Lodges.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in what circumstances was Mr. Timmons made the tenant of Phoenix Lodge.

The lodge was occupied by Mr. Timmons on his appointment as labourer in the Phoenix Park on the same terms and conditions as his predecessor.

Where did Mr. Timmons come from? Allahabad, I suppose. Will the Parliamentary Secretary make inquiries as to where Mr. Timmons came from?

I am not concerned as to the origin of any man so long as he is an Irishman.

But is your predecessor concerned? That is what I am inquiring about.

asked the Minister for Finance when Mr. D.O. Carroll became a tenant of Bessboro' Lodge, Ashtown.

Mr. Carroll was put into occupation of Bessboro' Lodge on 23rd November, 1946, as part of the emoluments of the post of relief constable in the Phoenix Park to which he was appointed.

Where did he come from? Allahabad, too, I suppose.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say whether a preference is given to ex-Army men when making these appointments?

So far as I know such a preference is given in the making of all appointments.

Was that adhered to in this case?

I do not know.
