Vol. 104 No. 2

Written Answers. - Live-stock Purchase

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether he will arrange for buyers of cattle, from his Department, to attend provincial fairs to purchase live stock, as many fairs in the Midlands have failed owing to the absence of buyers; and if such buyers will be instructed to pay top prices for suitable live stock available at all fairs they may visit.

It is not proposed to arrange for buyers from my Department to attend at provincial fairs to purchase live stock. This matter has already received careful consideration in connection with the purchase of cattle for export under the Government's scheme for the relief of distress in Europe, but it was found to be impracticable.
