Vol. 104 No. 3

Written Answer. - Import Duties.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what commodities are subject to an import tariff or duty; the rate of the tariff or duty in each case; and also the quantity of each such commodity imported in 1946.

A list of customs duties which indicates the classes of goods liable to duty on importation with particulars of the rate of duty chargeable in each case is given in the Customs and Excise Tariff, a copy of which is available for reference in the Oireachtas Library. The preparation of a return showing the precise quantity of each dutiable commodity imported during the year 1946 would involve an expenditure of time and labour out of all proportion to its value. A general indication of the information required by the Deputy can be obtained by reference to the monthly trade statistics issued by the Department of Industry and Commerce.
