Vol. 104 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Road Workers.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is now in a position to state what provision has been made for the roadmen employed by the Dublin County Council whose services were dispensed with on reaching 70 years of age; and if they will be covered by the proposed Superannuation Bill for employees of local authorities.

Following the Deputy's questions on this subject to which I replied on 23rd October and 7th November, 1946, I have had this matter discussed on a number of occasions with the commissioners administering the affairs of the Dublin County Council. The matter has been very fully considered, but it has not been found possible to make any provision for those road workers of the council who have reached 70 years of age and whose services were recently dispensed with, other than by offering employment to their sons where this has been practicable.

As regards the latter part of the question, I would suggest that the Deputy wait until the text of the Local Government (Superannuation) Bill is available. I propose to move the introduction of the Bill at a very early date.
