Vol. 104 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Timber Supplies.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if there is likely to be any difficulty in obtaining sufficient supplies of standing timber from State forests to meet the needs for domestic fuel; and if any steps are being taken to secure larger supplies from private owners.

The supply of standing timber in State forests suitable for use as firewood is obviously limited, but the necessary steps are being taken by the Minister for Lands to make the maximum possible quantities available.

The procuring of increased supplies from other than State sources is a matter for private enterprise and considerably increased petrol allowances have been provided to facilitate the transport of such firewood.
