Vol. 104 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Nationality and Citizenship.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state if officials of his Department recently attended a conference on nationality and citizenship in London; and if so, if he will state the results of the conference, particularly in regard to the problem of dual citizenship here.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether he will state the purposes for which representatives of the Department of External Affairs are attending the conference on nationality and citizenship in London; at whose invitation they are in attendance, and in what capacity, as participants or observers; whether membership of the conference is restricted, and if so, how.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state the purpose for which officials from his Department recently attended a conference on nationality and citizenship in London; and if he will state how the conference was convened and the matters discussed there.

I propose to take questions Nos. 1, 2 and 3 together.

On the invitation of the British Government, a delegation, consisting of certain officers from my Department, from the Department of Justice and from the Office of the Attorney-General, are at present in London attending a conference of experts who are examining certain questions of nationality and citizenship law, with a view to reporting to their several Governments on these questions. Besides ourselves and Great Britain, the following countries are also represented: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Newfoundland, Burma, Ceylon and Southern Rhodesia.

Will the results be published when the conference has concluded? Is there any reason for the non-attendance of a Minister at the conference?

No Minister from any country is attending.
