Vol. 104 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grant for Road Repair.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make available, at once, a grant to cover the full cost of the repair of the road in the town-lands of Cashel and Forkfield, electoral divisions of Islandeady and Aughagower, County Mayo.

I assume that the road referred to by the Deputy is an accommodation road running along the north-west shore of Cashel Lough.

This work will be considered on its merits as an employment scheme, in competition with other proposals from the same area and in the light of the unemployment position. If, however, the landholders desire that the proposal should receive priority, they have the option of making an application under the rural improvements scheme, in which case they would have to pay a proportion of the cost, not exceeding 25 per cent.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary give any indication of what the cost in that case would be—would it be less than the usual 25 per cent.?

I could not anticipate. I must wait until a proposal is submitted.

Very good.
