Vol. 104 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Improvements Scheme.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state, in respect of County Meath, for each year since the scheme commenced: (a) the number of applications received under the rural improvements scheme; (b) the number approved and completed; (c) the number rejected; (d) the amount advanced from State funds; and (e) the amount contributed by local applicants.

Particulars of rural improvements schemes are not kept for each financial year in such a way as to make the exact information asked for by the Deputy available without an undue amount of clerical labour. The aggregate figures for County Meath since the scheme commenced in 1943 are as follows:—

(a) Applications received

147

(b) Schemes approved and completed

49

(c) Number of applications rejected

7

(d) Amount advanced from State funds

£4,723

(e) Amount contributed by local applicants

£1,526

In addition to the 49 schemes approved and completed 23 other schemes are at present in the hands of the county engineer for execution, at a total cost of £4,396, representing grants from State funds £3,335, and local contributions £1,061. Fourteen offers of grants were not accepted by the applicants. There are still 54 applications in hands in respect of which offers have not been made to the applicants: many of these are awaiting inspection.
