Vol. 104 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether arrangements will be made for the payment of unemployment assistance, at the rates prevailing in Great Britain, to all Irish workers who will be unemployed as a result of the non-renewal of their residence permits by the Government of Northern Ireland; and whether any special arrangements have been made for the provision of employment here for these workers.

No arrangements for the payment of unemployment assistance at British rates to workers returning here from Northern Ireland are contemplated. On the return of such workers they will receive unemployment assistance here under the Unemployment Assistance Acts on precisely the same conditions and will be afforded the same opportunities of obtaining employment as other recipients of unemployment assistance.
