Vol. 104 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extra Bread Rations.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will include, in the class of persons for whom extra bread will be available, the small boat inshore fishermen in West Cork, who have to be at sea the greater part of the day and night, and who are unable to provide any alternative food while engaged in fishing.

There are many serious practical difficulties in devising a workable scheme of supplementing bread and flour rations for inshore fishermen, but the matter is being examined.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will consider, in view of their limited number and the hard work they must undertake, the granting of an increase in the bread ration to the forestry workers employed at the several State forests.

Workers employed at State forests come under the scheme of supplementary bread and flour rations.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will consider the possibility of making bread available for wakes in country districts where large numbers of relatives and friends foregather on such occasions at short notice.

I regret that the supply position would not permit of extra bread being made available for the purpose mentioned in the question.
