Vol. 104 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Nurses' Salaries.

asked the Minister for Health if he proposes (a) to grant increased salaries to dispensary maternity nurses, and (b) to sanction an increased contribution from local authorities to local nursing associations employing jubilee nurses or health visitors.

(a) On the 28th November last the Minister for Local Government and Public Health made a recommendation to public assistance authorities for a new scale of salary and allowances which represented an increase of 50 per cent. on the normal salaries in pre-war days.

Since the issue of the circular proposals for increased salary scales for midwives have been received from 13 local authorities and approved.

(b) The question of an increase in the subsidy payable by a local authority to a district nursing association is a matter in the first instance for the local authority concerned. Any proposal for an increased subsidy which may be submitted will receive sympathetic consideration.
