Vol. 104 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mental Hospital Employees' Wages.

asked the Minister for Health if representations have been made to him on behalf of tradesmen and others employed in Grangegorman and Portrane Mental Hospitals who have not yet received wage increases similar to those granted to the same class of workers by private employers; and if he will state the reasons for the delay in sanctioning the payment of these increases.

Sanction has been given to proposals submitted to increase the remuneration of certain trades staff employed by the Grangegorman Mental Hospital Board. Proposals respecting increased remuneration to other employees of that board are under examination and will be dealt with as expeditiously as possible. In view of the large number of different classes of persons employed in these hospitals the examination of the proposed increases in remuneration must necessarily involve some delay.
