Vol. 105 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Labourers' Cottages in County Dublin.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is now in a position to state when the Dublin County Council will begin work on the erection of the labourers' cottages provided for under the recent Compulsory Purchase Order.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a question by Deputy Burke on the 22nd January last, in which I pointed out that the county council could not proceed with the acquisition of the sites included in the County Dublin County Council Compulsory Purchase (Labourers Acts) Order, 1945, owing to an action instituted by one owner in the High Court questioning the validity of the Order. The court in an interim decision, has recently given permission to the council to proceed with the acquisition of all sites other than that which is the subject of the action, and the council is at present taking steps to enter into possession of these sites. Plans for 11 groups comprising 498 cottages in the north county have been approved and the work of developing these sites can be undertaken immediately possession is secured, assuming that sufficient labour and materials can be had.

Plans for the remaining sites included in the compulsory purchase Order are in an advanced stage of preparation.
