Vol. 105 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fencing of Offaly Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he has received complaints that the Land Commission did not complete a proper scheme of fencing and drainage for the tenants of the Drought estate, Ballybracken, Kilcormac, Offaly; if he will direct an investigation into the complaints of the tenants on this estate, which was divided about 1931; and if the Land Commission will sympathetically consider the reasonable request of tenants for proper fencing and completion of drainage.

Considerable expenditure on fencing, drainage and other improvement works was incurred by the Land Commission, when these lands were divided in 1931. No representations concerning improvement works on the lands have been received from the allottees in recent years and any fencing or drainage now desirable is a matter for the allottees concerned. Generous State assistance for suitable works of this class is provided for land-holders under the farm improvements scheme and rural improvements scheme.
