Vol. 105 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Literary Tuition in Reformatory Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state how far the recommendations of the Cussen Commission, relating to the appointment of teachers of literary subjects in reformatory and industrial schools, have been implemented; and whether these teachers are now afforded the same status as primary teachers in national schools.

The appointments of teachers of literary subjects in reformatory and industrial national schools are now subject to the same conditions as appointments of teachers in ordinary national schools. The same salary scales apply to both types of teacher, and lay teachers recognised on the minimum staff of reformatory and industrial national schools have been included in a pension scheme, which took effect as from 1st April, 1941.
