Vol. 105 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ferry in County Waterford.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that while a ferry service is provided at Youghal Bridge, by Córas Iompair Éireann, for the crews of buses plying on the Waterford to Cork route, no such service is available for passengers, who must cross the bridge on foot; and if he will direct Córas Iompair Éireann to provide this facility for passengers using the service in question.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will direct Córas Iompair Éireann to arrange for the provision, at each end of Youghal Bridge, of suitable shelters for the use of passengers travelling on the bus service on the Waterford to Cork route.

I propose to take questions Nos. 7 and 8 together.

Córas Iompair Éireann provide a hackney service to convey bus passengers across Youghal Bridge. The company have contracted with the owner of the hackney to make sufficient runs to transport all passengers. Passengers can remain in the bus while waiting to be conveyed in the hackney car. I see no reason to ask the company to provide shelters at the bridge.
