Vol. 106 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Turbary.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a number of turbary plotholders in Dalgan, Shrule, County Galway (De Clifford Estate), have been dispossessed of their plots by the owner of the bog, Mr. Martin McDonough, Galway; and if he will take action to secure the return of the turbary plots to the previous holders.

Proceedings are in progress for the acquisition of the lands and bog, at Dalgan Demesne, belonging to Messrs. McDonagh and Son. Pending acquisition the Land Commission have no power to regulate the use of the property.

I have been informed that in 1945 these banks of turf were sold at 2/6 per yard, in 1946 at 3/6 per yard and in 1947 at 5/- per yard. When the tenants in question objected they were told by the landlord that they would have to get out. What are they going to do?

All I can tell the Deputy is that the Land Commission is acquiring the property.

I was told that this time last year.
