Vol. 106 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salaries of Wexford Officials.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state when he proposes to sanction the increased salaries proposed for the Town Clerks of Wexford, Enniscorthy, Gorey and New Ross; and if he will state the causes of delay in the matter.

Decisions on the cases referred to by the Deputy will be issued shortly. In order to remove many of the anomalies that have hitherto existed in regard to pay of local officers it was necessary before disposing of individual cases to consider the question of scales of salary that would be appropriate where officers had similar duties and equal responsibilities and to examine all the proposals put forward in regard to officers in the same class.

Will the Minister say if the consideration to which he refers will extend to the town clerks of other local authorities?
