Vol. 106 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Steel, Limited.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the acute unemployment problem created in Cóbh by the closing down of Irish Steel, Limited; and if he will state what steps he is taking to secure the reopening of the mills so as to provide a supply of iron and steel, essential commodities to the agricultural community and industrialists.

I am aware of the unemployment caused by the closing down of the steel works at Haulbowline. The possibility of reopening the works is receiving every consideration, but I am not in a position at this stage to give the Deputy any further information in the matter.
