Vol. 106 No. 13

Ceist—Question. Oral Answer. - Acquisition of Bog (County Mayo).

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that approximately 100 acres of bog were acquired from Thomas Hyland, Coolaught, Murneen, Claremorris, County Mayo (Ormsby estate), about 23 years ago; further, that while this bog adjoins the public road, no boundary fence has been erected there by the Irish Land Commission; and if he will have the necessary fencing provided as soon as possible.

Turbary rights over the bog on Mr. Hyland's holding were allocated many years ago by the former Congested Districts Board. The temporary grazing on the bog and the reversion in the cut-away remain with Mr. Hyland. The Land Commission have no responsibility for the erection or maintenance of fences to protect his holding.

Will the Minister say if the further responsibility is on Mr. Hyland?

Mr. Hyland, apparently, is the owner, and the responsibility of maintaining any fences is on him.

That is that.
