Vol. 107 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agreements with Northern Ireland Government.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will give details concerning the agreements made with the Northern Ireland Government which were referred to in the British House of Commons, during the debate on the Second Reading of the Northern Ireland Bill, on 13th June, 1947.

As I stated in reply to a question by Deputy Tadhg Ó Murchadha on the 13th November last, there were discussions between the Electricity Supply Board and the corresponding authority in the Six County area with regard to the drainage works required in connection with the hydroelectric development of the River Erne. Mutually satisfactory arrangements had been worked out between these two authorities when the Six County Government was advised, we understand, that additional statutory powers would be required to enable the undertakings involved to be entered into on their side. The grant of these powers is the purpose of one of the clauses in the Bill at present before the British Parliament.

There has been no recent agreement or arrangement other than this arrangement about Lough Erne.
