Vol. 107 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cream Consumption.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that large quantities of cream are at present available for consumption by tourists and wealthy people in hotels and restaurants in Dublin and throughout the country; that cream was available, similarly, in the summer and autumn of 1946; and if so, if he will state what steps, if any, he intends to take to ensure that the cream now devoted to luxury purposes shall be manufactured into butter, with a view to ensuring that the ration of butter may not be limited to two ounces per person at any time in the future.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a similar question from Deputy Heskin on the 14th May.

Does the Minister mean to tell me that the plentiful supplies of cream that were available last year were not responsible for the shortage of butter in December, January and February of last year and up to May? I regard the answer as very unsatisfactory and with your permission, Sir, I propose to raise this matter on the adjournment of the House.
