Vol. 107 No. 7

Imposition of Duties (Confirmation of Order) Bill, 1947—First Stage.

I move that leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to confirm an order made under the Emergency Imposition of Duties Act, 1932.

I oppose, for the purpose of eliciting from the Minister an indication as to the subject matter of this Bill.

I propose to ask the Dáil to take this Bill to-morrow. It relates to a minor order concerning duties on hair combs. The only reason for urgency is that the order must be confirmed before 27th September, and, if not taken this session, would involve an earlier meeting of the Dáil than is proposed.

Behold the soft answer turning away wrath.

We read a leading article this morning about making millionaires out of hair combs. Is the purpose of this proposal to give an opportunity to somebody to become a millionaire out of hair combs?

No, nor has it any relation to hair shirts.

Second Stage ordered for Friday, 4th July.
