Vol. 107 No. 8

Agricultural and Fishery Products (Regulation of Export) Bill, 1947 —From the Seanad.

The Dáil went into Committee to consider an amendment from the Seanad.

I move that the Committee agree with the Seanad in the following amendment:-

In page 3, line 30, the word "ten" deleted and the words "one hundred" substituted therefor.

What does the amendment do or what is the effect of it?

It is hard enough to say what it does.

How do you expect others to know then?

It does so little that I have agreed to accept it. There is a maximum penalty of £10 proposed in the section and some Senators felt keenly that that maximum should be increased to £100. I could not really see the force of it, but I could not see any harm in it inasmuch as the justice will have the discretion which he would have in any case.

Question put and agreed to.
Amendment reported and agreed to.
