Vol. 108 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state: (a) the number of drainage schemes prepared up to date; (b) the number on which work has begun; and (c) the number of persons now employed on drainage work undertaken under the provisions of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945.

To date one drainage scheme, viz., for the Brosna catchment area, Counties Laoighis, Offaly and Westmeath, has been prepared pursuant to the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945. This scheme has been confirmed by the Minister for Finance. Schemes for five other catchments are in course of preparation.

Apart from those engaged on surveys and preparatory work including the assembly, overhaul and maintenance of excavators and other drainage machinery, no persons have as yet been employed on drainage works under the Act.

What are the five other schemes in course of preparation?

I have not got the particulars with me. The Deputy might ask the Parliamentary Secretary that question.
