Vol. 108 No. 2

Written Answers. - Housing Grants

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate the local authorities which have made grants, under Section 3 of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1946, for the purpose of providing an extra room or for other purposes related to the isolation of persons suffering from tuberculosis; the number of grants made in each case; and the total sum paid on foot of such grants.

Schemes for the payment of grants under the section referred to have been made by all county councils and county borough councils. These schemes provide for 2,182 extra rooms and chalets at a cost of £283,071. No grants have so far been paid as the building works have not been completed in any particular case.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state, under each separate head, the sums provided by each local authority, under the provisions of Section 4 of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1944.

Since July 1st, 1940, no houses have been built by public utility societies for the rehousing of persons displaced by operations under the Housing of the Working Classes Acts and consequently no assistance under Section 4 of the Act of 1944 has been given by local authorities to such societies.
