Vol. 108 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Milk in Louth.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, with reference to the Prices Order appearing in the Press on the 1st November, 1947, fixing the retail price of milk, he will state: (a) the present retail price per pint, for County Louth, of milk sold loose in shops, excluding highest grade milk; and (b) why the retail price for County Louth does not appear in the Prices Order.

The maximum retail price which may be charged for loose milk (other than highest grade milk) in County Louth during the period from the 1st November, 1947, to the 30th April, 1948, is 5d. per pint. As regards the second portion of the Deputy's question the present maximum retail price of 5d. per pint was authorised by the Milk (Retail Price) (County Louth) (No. 2) Order, 1947, notice of the making of which was published in the daily newspapers on the 1st instant.

Will the Minister say why there is a differentiation in price in the case of County Louth?

That is a long story and it would take me a considerable time to detail the entire history.

Mr. Morrissey

Why did the price not appear in the Minister's Order?

The price is published in the newspapers at the same time.

Mr. Morrissey

It did not appear in this case.

Mr. Morrissey

I did not see it in the paper I get at any rate.

The Deputy must be reading the wrong paper.
