Vol. 108 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gifts Permitted to be Exported.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, for the information of persons desiring to send Christmas gifts to Northern Ireland and Great Britain, he will issue forthwith a statement of the articles (i) the export of which as gifts will be permitted, or (ii) the export of which as gifts will not be permitted whichever is more convenient.

A list of the goods prohibited to be exported save under licence may be inspected at any post office or customs post. Where export is allowed subject to conditions, an interested person may obtain full information by inquiry at the offices of my Department in Kildare Street.

Does the Minister appreciate that it is not convenient for persons living in rural districts to make inquiries at his Department? Could he not issue a public advertisement which would convey a certain amount of that information?

There is a public advertisement in every post office and custom house giving a complete list of the goods which are prohibited to be exported.
