Vol. 109 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cinema Tax.

Mr. Corish

asked the Minister for Finance whether he was requested, by the Theatre and Cinema Association, to receive a deputation from their executive, for the purpose of placing before him certain considerations relative to the increased tax on cinema seats; whether he refused to see the deputation; and if so, on what grounds.

The answer to the first part of the question is "yes". Having considered carefully the representations made by a deputation from the association which was received by one of the Revenue Commissioners and further representations contained in letters from the association to the Revenue Commissioners and my Department, I informed the association on the 10th instant that I could see no sufficient reason for modifying my Budget proposals and that, in the circumstances, it would appear that my receiving of a deputation would not serve any useful purpose. I have since received a further communication from the association to which I have replied that, if it is still the wish of the association that I should see a deputation, I am prepared to meet them.
