Vol. 109 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - I.R.A. Man's Claim for Illness Allowance.

Mr. Corish

asked the Minister for Defence whether he received, from Mr. John Dwyer, Aughlin, County Leitrim, an application for a special allowance, in respect of illness contracted by him in the course of his duties as an active member of the I.R.A.; whether the application was refused; if not, what action has been taken regarding it; whether Mr. Dwyer was awarded a service medal in connection with the service referred to; and if so, whether he will state on what grounds his present application is being questioned.

Mr. John O'Dwyer, Aughlin, County Leitrim, applied for a special allowance under the Army Pensions Acts but his application cannot be entertained until it has been established that the medal which he holds has been duly awarded in accordance with the requirements of the Acts. Inquiries have been addressed to the verifying officer with a view to having Mr. O'Dwyer's pre-truce service certified but until the necessary certificate is received no action can be taken in regard to his claim for a special allowance.
