asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the number of persons in receipt of (a) widows' pensions, and (b) orphans' pensions, on a non-contributory basis; and the number of such pensions paid at each rate of benefit.
Written Answers. - Widows' and Orphans' Pensions.
On the 30th September, 1947, the latest date in respect of which the information is available, the number of persons in receipt of (a) non-contributory widows' pensions was 22,584, and (b) of orphans' non-contributory pensions was 643. The numbers of such pensions being paid at each rate of pension are set out in the table hereunder.
In addition to the amounts shown in the table recipients of widows' and orphans' non-contributory pensions are entitled to cash supplements in accordance with the Sixth Schedule of the Social Welfare Schemes (Cash Supplements) Order, 1947.
