Vol. 109 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sydney Parade Train Services.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his attention has been directed to the serious loss and inconvenience to the residents and travelling public of the Merrion Road and district by the action of Córas Iompair Éireann in suddenly cutting off the evening train services to Sydney Parade Station; and whether he will take the matter up with the company with a view to the restoration of the services immediately.

I am informed by Córas Iompair Éireann that the number of passengers travelling by the evening trains to Sydney Parade and certain other stations on the Westland RowBray line have recently been very small. In present circumstances when the operating speeds are comparatively low, due to fuel difficulties, the stops have involved delays to the longer distance passengers who have not frequent alternative tram and bus services.

I understand that following consideration of representations made to them by the users of these services the company have decided to restore the stops at Sydney Parade and Salthill on the 10.53 p.m. train from Amiens Street.
