Vol. 109 No. 4

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition and Division of Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands what steps he has taken to acquire the lands of Francis Green, Cappanura, Dundrum, County Tipperary, for division among the uneconomic holders, landless men and cottage holders of the district.

Proceedings have been instituted by the Land Commission for the resumption of part of the lands of Francis Green in the townlands of Cappanura, Demone and Drummonaclara and an objection by the tenant to the Land Commission's proposals is receiving attention at present.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will arrange for an inspection of the lands of Michael Cleary, Templeathea, Athea, County Limerick, with a view to the acquisition and division of same for the relief of the serious congestion existing in the area.

The holding referred to by the Deputy would appear to be that of Michael Cleary in the townland of Templeathea East, containing 143a. 3r. 10p. on the estate of William H. Harkness, Record No. S.5504. The Land Commission have not had any previous representations for the resumption of this holding and owing to the present restricted scope of their activities outside the congested districts it is not at present possible to initiate inquiries in the matter.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what steps have been taken to acquire the large farm, situate at Dalgan, Shrule, the property of Mr. Thomas McDonough, Galway; and if he will state what the position is at the moment.

Proceedings for the acquisition of the lands of Carrowmore and Dalgan Demesne, the property of Messrs. McDonough and Sons, Limited, are nearing completion and the Land Commission are about to take possession.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Irish Land Commission have in their possession, for a considerable time, two holdings formerly the property of Catherine Murphy and John Bourke, both of Carheens, Cross, Claremorris, County Mayo; and if he will state when these farms will be allocated to the congested farmers in the locality.

Having regard to the prior claims of other areas of more acute congestion it is not possible to state when the Land Commission may be in a position to have the holdings, referred to by the Deputy, finally allotted.
