Supplementary Estimates. - Vote 2—Houses of the Oireachtas.

I move:—

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £10,000 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending 31st March, 1948, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Houses of the Oireachtas, including a Grantin-Aid.

The extra £10,000 on this Estimate is required to meet the expenditure which has arisen on account of the statutory increase in the number of Deputies and also out of the increase in the allowances to Deputies and Senators and the increase in the rate of certain salaries. The gross sum is greater than the £10,000 but there are savings on other sub-heads of some £3,000 which will off-set it.

Vote put and agreed to.
