asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the quantities of footwear for men, women and children (distinguishing between the different classes) manufactured in this country in each of the years 1938, 1946, 1947; the quantities of footwear in each of the above classes imported in the same years, and the quantities in each of the above classes in respect of which licences to import have been issued for the current year.

Licences Issued under the Control of Imports Acts.
In the current quota period (1st January, 1948, to 30th June, 1948, licences have been issued for 1,152,950 units (576,475 pairs) of footwear to which Control of Imports (Quota No. 3) Order applies.
Such licences do not specify the class of footwear to be imported and the quantities in each of the classes mentioned cannot, therefore, be stated.
