Vol. 110 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Cork Estate.

Mr. Collins

asked the Minister for Lands whether he has received representations regarding the acquisition of portion of the Leigh-White estate for reafforestation and what progress has been made in the matter; also, if he will state when he may be in a position to proceed with the work.

No recent representations have been received regarding the acquisition of portion of the Leigh-White (or Shelswell-White) estate for reafforestation. In reply to a question in 1941, it was explained that negotiations for the purchase of portion of this estate had been in progress for a number of years but that it had been found impossible to reach agreement with the owner as to the conditions on which the area would be sold, and the negotiations therefore lapsed.

Mr. Collins

Does the Minister propose to resume the negotiations on this question?

I understand that the question of the resumption of the negotiations depends entirely on those who are offering the land.
