Vol. 110 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition.

asked the Minister for Lands whether it is intended to institute proceedings for the acquisition of land in the near future, and if he will state the acreage of land it is hoped to acquire during the years 1948, 1949 and 1950.

The acquisition of land was resumed some time ago in the congested districts counties. It is not possible to indicate the probable result of activities in the period immediately ahead but the aim will be to proceed with the work as speedily as prevailing conditions permit. I cannot say when conditions are likely to improve sufficiently to enable acquisition proceedings to be reopened outside the congested districts.

I presume the landholders in County Meath can rest assured that they will be quite safe up to 1950.

If you want to give them that assurance, give it to them.

The land division scheme is in abeyance also.

The battering ram is in abeyance.
