Vol. 110 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Former Government Employees' Pensions.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider the claims for increase of pensions of all former Government employees who were retired on inadequate allowances, including those of postal employees.

The reply to the Deputy's question is in the affirmative and examination of claims on behalf of the classes referred to is proceeding. I think it necessary to add, however, that while it is desired to approach these claims sympathetically it is not possible for me, pending a review of the present difficult financial position, to give any undertaking as to the extent, if any, to which such claims can be met.
