Vol. 110 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Facilities in County Wexford.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state (a) the number of applications for telephones which are outstanding in each of the postal districts of Wexford, New Ross, Enniscorthy and Gorey; (b) the cause of the delay in having telephones installed where application has been made and (c) if it is proposed to have the installations made at an early date.

In the areas served by the exchanges at Wexford, New Ross, Enniscorthy and Gorey there are 50, 22, 29 and 21 waiting applicants respectively.

At these places, as at most other exchanges throughout the country, it has been necessary for some years past, owing to shortage of cable and exchange equipment generally, to restrict the installation of telephones. Special steps are now, however, being taken to provide service before the end of the year for prospective subscribers who applied prior to 1st January, 1948. Service will be provided at Enniscorthy within the next three months.
