asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he intends granting the Abandonment Order sought by Córas Iompair Éireann for the pier at Bantry, or if he intends to ensure that the pier will be properly repaired so that the people on Whiddy Island will have proper landing facilities and that the resolution passed by the Bantry Town Commissioners regarding this pier will be implemented as far as possible.

An application for an Order to authorise the abandonment of Bantry Pier has been received and is under examination in my Departmet. Public notice will be given and this will afford an opportunity for any persons concerned to make representations.
