Vol. 110 No. 11

Written Answers to Questions. - Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Fund.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the receipts and expenditure under the several heads from the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Fund for the year ending 31st March, 1948, as prepared for submission to the Comptroller and Auditor-General.

It is not possible at this date to supply the information asked for, as certain returns of pensions stamps sold and pensions paid at post offices, which form the main heads for receipts and expenditure, are not expected to be available till the end of next month. Perhaps the Deputy would care to repeat the question early in July, when I hope to be in a position to furnish the particulars desired.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the number of pensions, contributory and non-contributory, payable under the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts at 31st March, 1948.

The number of pensions payable under the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts at the 31st March, 1948, was:—

Contributory—

Widows

13,548

Orphans

649

Total Contributory

14,197

Non-Contributory—

Widows

22,148

Orphans

609

Total Non-Contributory

22,757
