Vol. 110 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Undeveloped Turbary.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that, as a result of the decision to discontinue almost entirely the scheme for hand-won turf, there are thousands of acres of turbary remaining undeveloped in South Kerry; and, if so, whether he will consider the installation there of a generating plant similar to that envisaged for Clonsast, which would give much needed employment in the South Kerry area and also augment the scheme for rural electrification.

I am advised that South Kerry is not a suitable location for an electrical generating station, and consequently it is not proposed to adopt the suggestion made by the Deputy.
