Vol. 110 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Valentia Slate Quarries.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will grant the necessary permit to a reputable company outside the State to enable them to work and develop the slate quarries in Valentia Island, County Kerry.

I will be prepared to consider any application for a State mining lease, in respect of State minerals in Valentia Island, submitted by a reputable company incorporated outside the State. If, however, such a company contemplates carrying on any business such as slate making, coming within the scope of the Control of Manufactures Acts, 1932 and 1934, it will be necessary for me to have regard to the provisions of these Acts before arriving at a decision.
