Dáil Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 12 May 1948

Vol. 110 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dáil Constituencies.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in order to give a better measure of effect to the constitutional principle of proportional representation, he will introduce legislation to amend the Electoral Acts to provide for a small number of Dáil constituencies, each returning seven members to Dáil Éireann.

Mr. Murphy

The next normal revision of the constituencies will not be due until 1959. It would, therefore, be premature to consider fresh legislation on the subject at present.
