Vol. 110 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that, owing to the inadequate water supply at Glounaguillagh, Muingaphuica, and Cara Lake, County Kerry, the health of the people resident in these areas is endangered; and, if so, whether he will take steps with a view to extending the existing waterworks scheme to these townlands at the earliest possible date.

Mr. Murphy

The local authority has prepared a programme of water and sewerage schemes to be carried out during the years 1948-49. This programme includes an extension of the Cara Lake supply to Muingaphuica.

A complaint was received recently of a shortage of water in the Cara Lake district and the matter has been taken up with the local authority. Before any consideration can be given to extensions of the supply to serve additional areas, it will be necessary to ascertain whether the supply available from the source would be adequate to meet the extra consumption of water involved in such extensions.

Is the Minister aware that the extension of the water service referred to in my question could be obtained from the auxiliary water supply scheme from Cara Lake to Killorglin, and would serve the areas mentioned?

Mr. Murphy

That seems to put a new complexion on the position, and I will have the matter inquired into and a communication sent to the Deputy inconnection with it as soon as possible.
