Vol. 110 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Maintenance Work.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in each case the amount of money additional to that already provided which he proposes to make available to Galway County Council for carrying out of maintenance work in the year 1948-49 in the following drainage districts: Ahasaragh, Kellysgrove, Kilchreest, Mount Bellew, Annagh, Lavally, Dunkellin, Oranhill, Furloughmore, Dunmore, Lisduff, Boley, Killimor, Monivea, Cappagh, Meelick-Polshask, Meelick-Glenamaddy.

The Galway County Council have been notified that I am prepared to allocate a grant of £20,000 subject to a local contribution of £6,666, for the restoration of county roads and for the carrying out of additional maintenance work in existing drainage districts, to provide work for persons heretofore engaged on the production of hand-won turf.

The scheme of works has not so far been submitted, but I will have the information requested by the Deputy sent to him when it is available.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary state out of what Vote these grants are to be provided?

If the Deputy puts down a separate question I will be prepared to answer it.

Surely this arises out of the Parliamentary Secretary's reply. He stated that certain moneys are to be provided for these works.

I do not think it does.

I submit to the Chair that it does. The Parliamentary Secretary need not answer if he is not in a position to do so.

The question to the Parliamentary Secretary was to state the amount.

I am asking him out of what Vote is the money being provided. Is it a fact that no new money is being provided for these works?

I have answered the question.

Is it a fact that moneys that were to be provided elsewhere are being diverted to this?
