Vol. 110 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Savings on Education Vote.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the nature of the savings on the Vote for the Department of Education to which he referred in his speech reported at Column 1041 of Official Report No. 9, Vol. 110.

The savings referred to do not affect the Education group of Votes to an appreciable extent. It is proposed to suspend the survey and reproduction of Irish Historical Records in foreign collections and to reduce to £1,000 in each case the provision for a Grant-in-Aid of the National Film Institute of Ireland and for the production of films on behalf of Government Departments. It is intended also to maintain grants towards the cost of heating and cleaning national schools on the scale obtaining in recent years.

Can the Minister say what is the total amount involved?

As far as I remember, it is £28,500. That is between all four items.
