Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Revenue from Customs, Excise and Taxation.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total amount of excise duty collected during the year ended 31st March, 1948, on (i) beer; (ii) betting; (iii) entertainments; (iv) licences—bookmakers, dog, liquor and others; (v) matches; (vi) spirits; (vii) sugar and molasses, and (viii) tobacco.

As the answer to this question is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have it circulated in the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total amount of customs duty collected during the year ended 31st March, 1948, on (i) clothing and apparel; (ii) motor car parts and accessories; (iii) oil; (a) mineral hydrocarbon, light, (b) hydrocarbon, other sorts; (iv) spirits; (v) tobacco; (vi) sugar, molasses, glucose, saccharin, sugar, etc., articles; (vii) wine, and (viii) wireless telegraphy apparatus.

As the answer to this question is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have it circulated in the Official Report.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total amounts collected during the year ended 31st March, 1948, in respect of (a) income-tax; (b) surtax and super-tax; (c) estate duty, legacy duty and succession duty; (d) corporation profits tax; (e) road fund, and (f) stamp duties, giving the separate sums for (i) land and property; (ii) stocks, shares, debentures, etc.; (iii) cheques, bills of exchange, etc., and (iv) sweep-stakes duty.

As the answer to the question is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have it circulated in the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

Final figures will not be available until July, 1948, and will be published in the Finance Accounts. Meanwhile, the following figures (which are considered to be reasonably close estimates) may serve the Deputy's purpose:—
