Vol. 111 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of New Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will consider the erection of a new national school at Araglen, County Tipperary.

I assume that the school to which the Deputy refers is that at Araglen, Kilworth, County Cork. The need for a new school at Araglen has been recognised but considerable difficulty was experienced in obtaining a suitable site. Such a site has, however, been obtained and the manager's solicitors are investigating the question of title to the ground. When satisfactory evidence of title has been furnished and other necessary preliminaries have been completed, a grant in aid of the erection of the new school will be sanctioned. Every effort will be made to expedite the case so as to ensure that the new school will be erected at the earliest possible date.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state what progress has been made towards the erection of a national school at Ballyglass, County Mayo.

A site for the erection of a new national school at Ballyglass was offered and accepted in 1944 as suitable for school building purposes. The manager was, however, unable to furnish satisfactory evidence of title to the site and in the absence of such evidence a grant could not be sanctioned. I am having the present position examined and I will inform the Deputy of the result in due course.
