Vol. 111 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Telephone Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware (a) that there are no public telephone facilities at Bartlemy sub-post office, County Cork; (b) that representations were made to his Department in connection with this matter as far back as January, 1944, and again in November, 1946; and if, in the circumstances, he will state when such facilities will be provided.

The reply to queries (a) and (b) is in the affirmative.

A public telephone call office will be installed at Bartlemy Post Office as part of the Department's scheme to provide a public telephone at every post office which has not this facility. Owing, however, to heavy arrears of other construction work—particularly the clearance of waiting applications for telephone service—it has been necessary to suspend work on the call office programme for the present, and it will, therefore, be some time before a public telephone can be provided at Bartlemy Post Office.
